Who we are.
At Cargo Road Wines, the vineyard leads the way.
Established in 1983 on the northern slopes of Mount Canobolas, our vines grow slowly in deep red basalt soils, shaped by altitude, seasons and care rather than chemicals. For the past 29 years, James has cared for this land with a long view, guided by holistic and regenerative practices that nurture the place we call home.
Sheep move through the rows, bees hum among the blossoms and every part of the property works together as one living system. We farm with a gentle footprint, thinking beyond the season at hand and toward the health of the land over time.
Here, wine begins long before the bottle. It begins with healthy soil, clean air, thoughtful hands and respect for the rhythms of nature. We do not chase trends or shortcuts, only an honest expression of place. The result is wine that reflects where it comes from, crafted with patience, integrity and a deep connection to Country.
This is more than a vineyard. It is a working landscape, cared for today so it can thrive tomorrow.
And every glass tells that story.
